Bacolor Crater Ejecta
About this image
Today's VIS image shows part of the ejecta of Bacolor Crater. The ejecta is layered and grooved, all radial to the crater itself. The two layers show that the ground was probably ice-rich and that the impact and scattering of ejected debris unfolded in two stages: first a horizontal blast, then the collapse and outward surge of a column of debris that was thrown vertically. Bacolor Crater is located in Utopia Planitia.
