About this image

Today's VIS image shows part of the western end of Noctis Labyrinthus. Numerous graben and collapse features are visible in the image. At this end of Noctis Labyrinthus the graben are mostly parallel with each other. To the east, the graben form a maze-like pattern. This feature of deep intersecting valleys was formed by tectonic forces and extensive faulting. Noctis Labyrinthus is located at the western end of Valles Marineris and is 1190km (739 miles) long.
