About this image

Today's VIS image shows part a region of chaos south of Elysium Planitia. Chaos terrain is typified by mesas and valleys. With time and erosion the valleys widen and the mesas grow smaller. In the lower half of the image are numerous arcuate fractures. This fracturing is the probable start of chaos formation in this region.
